Description of the problemWent to use emergency brake and the lever was free with no connection indicated. Took it to the dealer and the dealer said it needed a complete rear $900+ brake job and would not be covered by the extended warranty. Took it to a 3rd-party mechanic; cost $299. 00 to fix because they had to dismantle the console and remove rear seats and remove rug to get at the cable. The cable was not broken, it was simply disconnected from the lever inside the console; there was nothing wrong with the rear brake assembly -- it did not need a brake job. Mechanic's observation was the only way the cable could have been disconnected is if it was disconnected at the brake site, allowed to become slack and when reconnected at the brake site the cable was pulled under the rug. The dealer had previously conducted work in the rear end the previous december and claimed they could not have done this. Note: this was the 1st time i had attempted to use the emergency brake since i bought the vehicle in 2007.
