Description of the problemVehicle is 2007 jeep grand cherokee and currently has 18300 miles and was purchased new in jan. 2008. Two failure to accelerate problems have occurred. One on 5/31/10 and another on 04/21/11. In both instances the vehicle would not shift into the next gear and the speed could not exceed 30 to 35 mph even with the accelerator pressed all the way to the floor. The problem occurred without any warning. After the first occurrence the dealer replaced the bezel shift selector. After the second occurrence the dealer could not determine what the problem was. Merging onto a busy freeway where traffic speeds routinely exceed 80mph and not being able to accelerate beyond 30-35 mph is a serious safety problem which could result in injury or death. The same safety concerns apply if the vehicle suddenly decelerates from 70 to 30 mph.
