| Description of the problem | 2011 jeep compass, a rental vehicle. The front right seat safety belt, while appearing to be buckled, was not securely fastened. When the vehicle came to a sudden stop, the belt unbuckled allowing the passenger to move forward towards the dashboard. No injuries resulted from the incident. Upon investigation it was apparent that the outer plastic casing of the buckle receptacle was not in the correct position. This piece was moved by hand into the correct position, and the belt then apparently operated appropriately for the remainder of the rental period. *kb |
