| Description of the problem | The skid plate below the gas tank completely rusted away. The skid plate is the only thing holding the gas tank secure to the jeep. There are no other retaining straps. I noticed the problem before the gas tank was able to drop and secured it with rubber straps until i could get it repaired. The jeep could not be driven. A full tank of gas could have caused the tank to drop through the rusted skid plate. The jeep also has skid plates below the front and mid drive components. They have not rusted at all. There is no rust on the jeep anywhere else. I have photos of the rusted component while in place and after it was removed and replaced. I checked with my local jeep dealer and they were unaware of a problem. |
