Description of the problemWhile driving at night i thought i could hear a scraping noise. I promptly rolled down my window and continued to accelerate slowly. I didn't hear the noise so proceeded home. A few miles later i pulled into my drive and a police officer pulled up to tell me metal was loose under my vehicle and shooting sparks out of the rear. The next morning i checked and a large piece of rusted metal was hanging by a thread so i removed it. I made an appointment to have the vehicle inspected and was shown that 2 of the 3 straps holding my gas tank in place were completely gone and the third is broken and rusted through. My vehicle is unsafe to drive and i had no idea. I looked to see if this was a recall issue and it is not. I searched to see if this is a common problem and found that it is extremely common across the entire jeep line. If my gas tank were to separate or be punctured it could not only cause an explosion killing me and my family but could kill/seriously injure anyone on the road behind me. I have absolutely no recourse to resolve this issue. I can't afford the dealership amount which is more than the vehicle is worth. How is this not a recall issue?
