Description of the problem	During an out of town trip (highway) drive with the family on easter sunday, my 2016 jeep cherokee limited transmission suddenly locked into 8th gear and wouldn't accelerate past 2000 rpms. Check engine light and "service transmission" appeared on the control panel. In order to not be stranded, we drove the car in 8th gear for 3. 5 hours back home. Car would not change gears, nor accelerate. We luckily were not involved in an accident. Upon arriving at the dealership (closed for holiday), another jeep owner was there dropping off his car as his was stuck in 3rd gear and couldn't accelerate past 45 mph. The service department just called me back now (next day) and said that transmission error is a software problem and needs to be upgraded. Why would the car need an upgrade and make the transmission inoperable while i'm in motion inside the car? Infuriating!
