Description of the problem	Service shifter message appears on dashboard. Took car to jeep dealer for service. Advises there is a service bulletin out on this issue but no recall yet. Tsb 08-054-18 rev a issued sept 2018. Remedy is to replace the shifter bezel display and shifter wiring harness. Dealer advised that this would not be covered under the 5 year powertrain warranty. They said the shifter is not part of the powertrain ? My car is 4 years old and the bumper to bumper ended at 3 years. They expect me to pay for these repairs myself. Car only has 39,000 miles on it. How can this not be part of the powertrain ? It controls the transmission. Repair cost approx $530. 00 dealer still has my car. They advise parts are on back order and it would be 3 weeks before they came in. They advise car is not safe to drive and i would need to rent a car. For 3 weeks+. This would cost me several hundred dollars. I have read this is a common issue with jeep cherokees from 2014 to 2018 with the 9 speed automatic transmission. Many people have already filed complaints with ntsb and are wanting a recall issued. Please investigate this and issue recall. Also please investigate how fca (fiat chrysler) can classify the shifter as not being part of the powertrain. That is a real stretch so they don't have to pay for the work on cars over 3 years old.
