Description of the problem	Driving 65 mph on highway dashboard warning lights started flashing service transmission immediately. Transmission disengaged car would not respond when gas pedal was pushed. Message to shift car in park appeared. Had to coast in morning rush hour traffic to the shoulder. Could have been a very dangerous situation. On shoulder put it into park and if it was put into drive it would jolt severely and would not move more than a few inches with accelerator pressed. Had the car towed to the dealer on a flatbed. Was informed that a new transmission is needed. The jeep cherokee has 31000 miles.
