Description of the problem	While on a very tight highway on-ramp at about 40 mph the accelerator was fully depressed to quickly enter the flow of traffic (cruise control was not on). The vehicle accelerated forward rapidly after shifting down. When the accelerator was released the vehicle continued to race forward nearly hitting other vehicles ahead on the highway. This racing ahead lasted 5-10 seconds and was out of control. Being very frightened, i began to hit the brakes with both feet to slow the vehicle. After a time the accelerator released and the vehicle behaved normally. Unfortunately i do not remember if the accelerator pedal stuck in the fully depressed position or if it released and the vehicle still raced forward. In any case the vehicle raced forward long after i removed my foot from the accelerator. Either the accelerator mechanism stuck down or the vehicle speed control system did not respond appropriately to driver input. I see other report on the internet of this vehicle behavior for this year and model.
