| Description of the problem | Tire complaint, not about the vehicle itself. I see no where to file a complaint specifically about tires. 2015 hyundai sonata sport 2. 0t purchased new 3/24/16. Equipped with hankook ventus s1 noble2 tires - 235/45r18 dot # t7n9 1a h 4214. Immediately purchased a tire protection package from discount tire which entitled me to: free flat repairs, free rotation & balance, and road hazard protection. The tires were maintained by me - a semi-retired mechanic at 35 psi and checked regularly. The vehicle also displays tire pressure information in the drivers' information display. Tires were rotated every 5,000 miles with each oil change. On december 11,2017 at approximately 27,500 miles (tire is rated as a 50,000 miles tire by hankook), i noticed a vibration at highway speeds that was increasingly getting worse as the day progresses. Pictures attached show the driver's side front (left front) tire. Tread separation was occurring around 1/3rd of the tread diameter. It is not alignment wear as the picture of the same wheel turned to the right clearly shows the remainder of the tread in near perfect wear pattern. Tread depth was 6/32nds. In my following numerous online hyundai pages including: hyundaiforums. Com and sonata society on facebook, it has come to my and several other sonata owners whose vehicle came equipped with this model and size tire are experiencing similar tread separation, some with as little as 10,000 miles. Had i been a typical consumer and not someone with 35 years of experience working on cars and knew what to look for, that tire will have exploded and caused serious injury to myself and others. I replaced all 4 but have one in my trunk for verification. A safety hazard and this size needs to be included in the current hankook tire recall. Documentation available if requested. |
