Description of the problem	2013 hyundai sante fe limited (purchased new) - 8/2/19 steering began to experience a "hesitation", "lag", "play" when turning the steering wheel even slightly in either direction. The problem increased in the "hesitation", "lag", "play" experienced. Performed search on the internet and found that hundreds of owners of hyundai across many models and years experiencing the same problem. A number owners experiencing extreme problems, i. E., steering going out completely or locking up while driving. It appears all these problems are attributable to hyundai's election to use a cheap rubber coupler between the steering column and steering linkage. While researching i found that, in fact, hyundai has issued several technical service bulletins. I have been the only owner of my vehicle. However, i have never received any notification of this potential very dangerous problem with an essential part to the safe operation of these vehicles. The replacement part is $6. 88. Hyundai delearships charge $400-$500 to replace it. Nhtsa should have long ago ordered hyundai to effectuate a replacement of this part with one made of a material that will not degrade as this part does.
