Description of the problemTook my car in for servicing and asked them to check my air conditioning unit. No cool air from the system. The technician said a piece of glass and wire resembling part of a tire retread had somehow passed through the grill and damaged the condenser. Thus, freon leaked out over time resulting in lack of cool air. The service clerk said he had heard that this had occurred in the past with other hyundai genesis. Interesting how there is no damage to the front end of the car or the grill. Does not sound feasible that a piece of glass (2 inches by 1 inch with quarter inch thickness) and wire (7 inches) could sneak through grill and hit with velocity to damage a condenser with no damage to the grill. Are grill slats too wide or is there a lack of under carriage protection? The dealership kept the glass and wire and suggested that i contact my insurance company as this estimated $1000 item was not covered by the hyundai 5 year, 60 thousand mile warranty.
