Description of the problem	Traveling in a 40 mph zone approaching a red light. Began decelerating and applying brake. Eps (electronic power steering) light and esc lights activated on dashboard; complete loss of power steering occurred. Shut off vehicle & checked all fuses - all appeared normal; no power steering or esc functioning. Vehicle serviced by dealer who diagnosed a short in the electrical harness in the steering column. Repair required complete replacement of steering column and wiring harness (parts cost was over $1,100. 00). Dealer stated this is becoming a common repair for the elantra line of vehicles, but this was the first they saw in a touring model. Due to commonality of parts in comparison to the percentage of touring models produced it appears there may be a problem with the design of the steering column and wiring harness for all elantra models.
