Description of the problem	Approximately 2 months ago, periodically, while driving (30-45mph) we would hear an unusual whirling noise in the motor; not harsh but more a purring sound. The next time we drove the car we would not hear it. It continued but spasmodically. Then in november we began having trouble starting the engine. We had a new battery installed but again, periodically, both the whirling noise and no engine turnover. Yesterday, after making a quick stop before going to work, we had to call a tow truck co. Who also checked the battery (now less than a month old and charging perfectly). We are not certain of the relationship between the noise and the failure to start.
