Description of the problem2007 honda crv rear differential noise began at about30,000 miles. I took vehicle in to honda of turnersville, nj. They told me the noise was due to wear of the rear differential fluid, that it had to be changed whenever the noise appeared, or every 20,000 miles. They replaced the fluid free of charge, and burnished the bearings for the first time, but i was told i would have to pay for the service in the future. I was told it did not represent a safety hazard and that it did not do mechanical damage to the vehicle, nor would it in the future. There is nothing in the service manual regarding this service change requirement. I have noticed significant complaints from other crv owners on websites and blogs. I have also seen reference to "inferior subgrade" rear differential fluid use by honda on the same vehicles.
