| Description of the problem | While completing a right hand turn there was a catastrophic loss of all motive power. I was able to safely coast into the wide centre median, avoiding any collisions with other vehicles. No gear functioned including reverse. There had been no prior indication of any impending issue with the transmission. A complete safety was completed only six weeks earlier. The van was towed to a ford dealership and a complete transmission rebuild was required, inclusive of torque converter, shaft , bearing, screen assembly. The dealership indicated that this type of rebuild had been common on the 2005 ford freestar. The dealership used aftermarket parts that were hardened and chose not to source the parts from ford. |
