| Description of the problem | I was injured walking into the slide located on the right hand passenger side over the rear pass through storage area. Because of this location/design the back slider is 57 inches from the ground . The plastic molding of this particular corner had separated from the vehicle resulting in the exposure of sharp sheet metal edge being exposed. Two of the four corners had separated in this manner possibly because of a design flaw in which a fourth screw being applied dead center in the corner instead of 3 screws applied in a l - shaped manner. This separation was discovered after i the injury. There are no warning/cautionary signs to inspect corners b/c of this happening. Our owners manual does not warn of this possible danger. If a shorter person(i am 5 ft 2 inches tall) or a child made contact with the corner, the resulting injury could have resulted in serious eye injuries or "scalping" this is our fourth motorhome so we are familiar with sliders..... The first time i or any member of our camping family was injured. Motorhome was parked in our driveway in an area designated for storage in the driveway. It is marked with decorative railroad ties and gravelled. The injury resulted in a v - shaped filletedskin flap . Left side caused by separated plastic requiring 6 sutures ; right side caused by exposed sharp sheet metal causing deeper lacerations requiring 14 sutures..... With the last suture being removed and redone totalling 21 stitches. It is unknown if i passed out but there is time not accounted for which makes me believe that i did pass out. Accident occurred @ 10:30 am on thursday, july 21,2016. My husband and 2 friends cared for my injuries in a timely manner, icing the injury, stopping(slowing the heavy bleeding, and covering me with a blanket b/c of concern that i was in shock. I was transported by car to the local urgent care center where i was admitted @ 11:45 am. |
