| Description of the problem | Currently my f250 6. 7l diesel engine has a cel code of p20ba (reductant heater). During an extensive search on this part, it was discovered that the reductant heater was built by bosch and similar variants were installed in vw, gm, benz, and other diesel manufactures. Volks wagon has already increased the warranty of this part as it is prone to failure. Ford has yet to make a stb or a recall notice to service and repair this vital emissions component. While searching several 6. 7l ford truck forums, i learned that this is a reoccurring issue in many 6. 7 trucks. It seems odd that a truck with 70k miles that is not used for commercially purposes, has failed within the first 3 years of the vehicles life. Nationally this repair, if done by a ford dealer, is approximately $750. The cost of deleting the def system, though a federal crime, is $1,200 dollars. If the cost to remove equipment that is prone to failure, can increase the life of the engine, and costs slightly more than more , individuals will begin eliminating their def systems. A recall and replacement of these heaters would serve and benefit the diesel community. |
