| Description of the problem | I drove my truck to my farm without incident. After being parked for a while, my son-in-law got in to drive to a work area and immediately reported the brake pedal went to the floor. We checked the brake fluid level and it was almost empty, even though i had recently had the level checked as "full" at a change of oil and filter. It took two large bottles of brake fluid (at over $8. 00 each, just to get it home (about 50 miles). I had to pump the brakes during this trip to get braking action and drive very carefully and slowly. The day before this happened i had towed a single axle trailer with an agricultural disc on it. Had this quick loss of brakes occurred at that time, it likely would have resulted in serious injury, property damage, and even death. The shop where i took it replaced the master cylinder, the power booster, which had filled with fluid, and an o2 sensor, which had been damaged. The total cost was $1194. 34. Since all the parts were replaced with new ford brand parts, there is a likelihood that it will happen again. This is a real safety issue and merits a recall, as well as reimbursement to me of my expenses. |
