| Description of the problem | Experienced unexpected downhift into first gear at highway speed. Transmission was erratic in gear selection with corresponding tachometer and spedometer oscillations. Had six occurences with various degrees of severity . Called ford help line . All they said was that there were no recalls on this vehicle. Vehicle is " unsafe " to drive . Got the truck into the ford dealer and hadf it coded. Truck was showing codes for defective output speed sensor. The " lead frame " had to be replaced at " my expense ". No reprogramming was done because there was " no recall " at that time . The root cause was repaired but there was still the possibility of a violent down shift event . I have since received notification of a expanded recall to reprogram and prevent the dramatic and violent downshift issue. I am going to get the truck in asap to get this done . The original recall language stated that if the vehicle was having the downshift issues and tested positive for defective output speed sensor that ford would " replace the lead frame and reprogram " free of charge and also warrantee the components for i think 150,000 miles. I feel that i have had to make this vehicle " safe to drive " at my expense. The real fix is to replace the lead frame and reprogram . I was just lucky that there was no oncoming traffic when i experienced the dramatic down shift into first gear and had to manuver to the shoulder of the road . I feel bad for any one else that has to go through this. Ford is getting off on the " cheap ' by not doing the " complete " fix. Very !!!!!!!!! Unhappy ford owner. |
