| Description of the problem | I have a 2004 ford f-150 lariat. I was driving on a highway at 60 miles per hour when the driver side window fell into the door all by itself - i had not hit the window switch. I took the door apart and found that the window regulator was damaged in that the plastic clips holding the cable had broken. Inspection of the clips indicate that they are woefully underdesigned to handle the stress from the weight of the window and the force put on them from the torque of the window motor. As stated, this happened at 60 mph just as it was starting to rain. I was able to get to shelter before the serious rain fell, but had this happened during a serious rainstorm, it would have been a very dangerous situation. Research on-line indicates that this is a very common failure and has been happening since the introduction of the 2004 model. I contacted ford and was told that they will do nothing to fix as they have not been required to recall by nhtsa. This is a very dangerous and recurrent problem and i implore nhtsa to please do something to force ford to address the issue before someone is seriously injured!! |
