| Description of the problem | Power steering hose developed a leak where it rubbed on the frame/body and the power steering gearbox developed a leak at the output shaft. This allowed all the fluid to leak out loosing power steering. Not knowing you had lost the assist until you tried to turn could cause you to run off the road or hit another vehicle. Also the fluid actuates the brake booster causing you to loose brake assist which makes it difficult to stop as it is very hard to overcome the forces of the hydraulic booster holding the brake pedal which could cause an accident. The repair shop had a hard time finding a hose as it is a dealer item and they didn't stock it. They had a hard time finding a gearbox also but finally found a remanufactured one. New ones were not available. |
