| Description of the problem | This problem cross multiple years of the dodge ram 2500-3500 series of pickups. The front seat belts have an overactive pre-tensioner, which if traveling on a rough, gravel, or a simple bump/crack, or even turning a corner activate and continues to tighten and restrict the driver and passenger from moving. If on a rough or gravel road, the tightness of the seatbelts get to the point of having to remove them during driving, allow them to retract, pull back out, and rebuckle, only to repeat a few minutes later. The tightness also constrains the movement of the driver meaning that he/she is to tightly locked to the seat because of the overactive pre-tensioners it makes driving the vehicle unsafe. In some cases the belts become so tight that the only option is to remove them and ride without them, which is against the law, but the only option when traveling on a rough or gravel road. These belts should not act this way, and the pre-tensioner should only activate in a forward moving sudden stop, not under normal driving conditions. I have tried to address the situation with dodge, but without success. The issue is being discussed on a dodge truck/cummins engine forum in this thread: http://www. Cumminsforum. Com/forum/6-7-liter-general-discussion/490020-overactive-seat-belt-pre-tensioner. Html#post5047830. |
