The software modification will help ensure that the consumer has properly placed the shifter lever into the park position before attempting to exit the vehicle. The out of park alarm, which is the blaring of the horn, is only linked to the driver's door. If any of the other doors were opened while the vehicle was out of park the driver would not be notified.
