| Description of the problem | Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. While driving approximately 40 mph, there was an abnormal noise under the rear of the vehicle. As the contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The contact got out of the vehicle and discovered that the driveshaft was detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear axle pinon nut loosened and caused the driveshaft to become detached and the rear axle to seize. The contact stated that the failure mirrored nhtsa campaign number: 14v796000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000. |
