| Description of the problem | While driving with my children in the car my wife experienced a near sudden deterioration in braking performance. The brake pedal became very stiff with little or no travel in pedal regardless of pressure applied. This deterioration in braking performance became critical - requiring all the force my 100lb wife could muster to bring the car to a stop. The stiff pedal was obvious with the car on and off, moving and stationary. Though the problem occurred and was recognized only after the car was in motion on i84 (at 65 mph!!). Our mechanic identified the vacuum pump as the cause of the issue. |
