Description of the problem | While driving on interstate 85 truck started making noise and coolant light came on. After opening hood notice fan dislodged and coolant completely gone from radiator. Called a repair shop who diagnosed the fan hub bearing had failed causing the fan to break then causing a chain reaction of other parts such as penetrating a hole in radiator and possibly turbo air tubes and other minor hoses and belts and replacement of fluids transmission and coolant. The total bill escalated to almost $7000. 00 dollars for which it seemed to be over billed by the repair shop of about 2000. 00 dollars. This could of been prevented if a simple design of a brace to hold fan in place when fan hub fails. |
