Description of the problem | Dt: the consumer stated that in order to avoid a hitting a stalled vehicle, she had to abruptly turn the steering wheel to the left. The avoided hitting the vehicle, but the steering wheel would not turn back. The vehicle hit an embankment because the consumer was unable to gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle was being repaired at this time. It has not been determined why the steering locked. The consumer specifically wanted to note that she owned a 1989 nissan maxima, and it experienced the same problem. *ak (12/02/05) the consumer also stated that even on small turns, the wheel would stick.
