Description of the problem | Integrated trailer brake controller fails to provide sufficient braking power to trailer. On several occasions, truck and trailer were in near-miss potential accidents due to insufficient trailer braking. Controller will not hold trailer still while the truck is at rest. Regardless of settings, including max power settings and using the manual slider fully engaged, the controller would not activate the trailer brakes sufficiently to safely slow the trailer in any situation. Trailer in question is approximately 13,000#, dual axle with brakes on both axles. Second trailer was used for testing with similar results, including the inability to cause brake lockup of an empty flatbed trailer. Dealer replaced itbm component(s), with no change. Excused as working properly, even with obviously insufficient braking ability. |
