Description of the problem | Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ram 1500. While driving 45 mph, the pinion nut loosened, and the driveshaft seized, fractured, and separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact confirmed that the pinion nut loosened and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v038000 (power train). The vehicle was repaired; however, on another occasion while driving 45 mph, there was an abnormal whining sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the carrier bearing caps fractured, the lower bolts snapped flushed with the housing, the upper bolts were loose, the ring gears were worn; however, the pinion nut was still in place. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. |
