Description of the problem | Noticed gasoline odors, hard starting, check engine light came on, took to shop for diagnosis. Mechanic said the plastic housing on the top of the fuel pump had cracked, causing gas to leak from the tank also low fuel pressure and vacuum problems. Said car was unsafe to drive and needed the entire fuel pump replaced. This totaled $922 to repair. Thankfully the leak was detected before it caused a fire. Searching the internet i've seen numerous mentions of this same problem from other g6 owners. I also saw there has been a recall on similar models from warm weather states for the exact same problem i experienced (nhtsa campaign id # 12v459000 and/or 09v-419) where gm replaced the fuel pump module free of charge. I believe the recall should be extended to cover my model and year pontic g6, and gm should reimburse me for the repair. |
