Description of the problem	I was driving on the freeway and went to switch lanes to the left and the car made a dinging noise and it was extremely hard to make the turn as i normally could. I looked at the display and the power steering was on the screen . When i finally made it to my destination, and cut the car off upon restarting it the power steering came back. Upon returning home that night power steering was working fine and when i went to turn from off the freeway to city streets, i almost hit a car in the far left lane of oncoming traffic because once again the power steering went out. For about two weeks the power steering could be reset by restarting the car and then finally it went out completely. What i do notice is that if my wheel is turned at 180 degrees it has no shake and i can back up and never lose power steering but as soon as i turn it left or right it locks up and the power steering goes out again. I was told i need to replace the entire steering column as well as pay for programming to get my key to work to the new column. I am extremely frustrated as gm has recalled my year make and model but my vin number isn't listed in the recall. I hope this is fixed soon as i have done investigation and to fix this out of pocket it will cost around $750. 00.
