Description of the problem	Both outside and inside door handles on driver's door failed thus making door mechanism impossible to activate and driver's door impossible to open from inside or outside under any conditions. Door cannot be pushed open from inside because latch mechanism is in closed position securing door closed and handles do not work. Contacted dealer and dealer said it is probably a failed handle cable and that it is not uncommon on this model and is not covered under any recall, reimbursement, or safety program. This is a serious safety issue because the complete failure of the door latch mechanism traps the driver in the car; it is almost impossible for an adult-sized driver to get out because they cannot effectively crawl over the center console and gear shift to the passenger seat, assuming the passenger door is not blocked. A recall of this known defect is required immediately to save lives and allow trapped drivers and passengers to get out of car in reasonable time and way.
