Description of the problem | Three-month-old 2017 infiniti q60 sunroof spontaneously explodes. On the morning of may 22, 2017 around 6:30 am, i was driving to work on my normal route west on i-10 going the speed limit and near the siegen lane exit first heard a small pop like something hitting the windshield but no evidence could be seen of this occurring. About 30 seconds to a minute later heard a loud explosion like a tire blowout then a lot of road noise and wind. I pulled over and stopped to find out my sunroof glass was mostly gone, broken into small fragments and a hole blown through. Thankfully, my sunroof was down, screen closed, and no glass got into the car. I initially thought something had hit it or someone through something. However, there was no one near me at the time and i was in the middle lane of the highway, nor was there any debris that hit the car or additional damage. In addition, nothing visible in the sunroof. Furthermore, the sunroof was down and closed making impact by debris very hard. It was raining so i pulled into the nearest gas station, which was racetrac on siegen lane and requested a garbage bag to cover the damage and mitigate any further damage from the weather. I proceeded to call my insurance company to make a claim and request a tow to infiniti of baton rouge for potential repairs. After confirming a tow, i began to call and get quotes for the repairs. Once at work i started to talk to my co-workers and they recommended that i google exploding infiniti sunroofs because the occurrence was not something normal. I began to research and found that this weird occurrence is more common than i thought. I found various occurrences across a wide variety of manufactures and vehicles models. I submitted a claim to infiniti consumer affairs and i am awaiting a response by cob tomorrow. |
