Description of the problem | Check engine light came on, took vehicle to the dealership the same day. Was told the timing chain needed to be replaced because it was stretched. I've had the same driving habits (distance, destinations, etc) for all 4. 5 years that i've had the terrain. I've had all but 2 oil changes completed at the dealership where i purchased my car originally. I've consistently had my oil changed every time my light comes on and says it needs to be done. I had my oil changed 5 days ago, on schedule and today my engine light comes on and i'm quoted at minimum $2k for a timing chain repair. I called another gmc dealership to get a quote on the work and was told more than $3000 would be expected. Every mechanic i've talked with (at each dealership) suggested this is a known issue with gmc terrains, equinox's, traverse's. |
