Description of the problemI have a 2007 ford mustang (manual transmission) and i've been driving for a year. On nov 18, i had parked my car with the parking/ emergency brake on, like i have done everyday in past 1 year. When i tried driving back, the car wouldn't move. I talked to the dealership and they said it was because the brakes must have frozen because temperature was below 30 f. This is now happening everyday that the emergency brakes don't work in cold weather. I've checked numerous consumer forums and a large number of people are facing this problem. Apparently, the rubber boots at the end of the brake cables wear out very quickly, and they collect water or ice, which creates this problem. The dealership service advisor refused to replace the brake cables because they work when its warm. However this defeats the purpose of having an emergency brake when you cannot use it for 6 months in a year. Now i feel unsafe driving the vehicle with malfunctioning brakes.
