Description of the problem | Camshaft phasers failed so engine would not idle, causing a very dangerous situation at stop signs having to constantly rev engine to keep running. Repair cost $3,897. 73. Through internet investigation have found my particular year and engine (5. 4l triton) has a history of this failure. Told that a non-motorcraft oil filter can release debris that clogs a lubrivation port in the cam phasers which in turn destroys them. No info. Of this sort was ever relayed to me on purchase of vehicle. I have no reason to believe i have ever used anything but a motorcraft oil filter. A 2005 vehicle w/ a $3900. 00 mechanical repair is unacceptable. Have contacted ford until i have exhausted my attempts. They finally told me this was the end of our communications. |
