Description of the problem | Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford f-150. While driving approximately 70 mph, there was a loud noise and immediately the vehicle was maneuvered to side of the road. The contact noticed the fuel tank detached from the vehicle and both fuel tank straps were completely rusted. The failure caused damage to the fuel tank as a result to an extensive amount of fuel leakage on the ground. The vehicle was temporarily repaired and driven to the residence. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer stated there was not a recall and provided no further assistance. There was an open investigation under nhtsa action number ea11006 (fuel system, other: storage: tank assembly). The failure mileage was 218,000.
