Description of the problemMy 2012 equinox began burning excessive oil. I had to add oil between oil changes. The vehicle exhibited the exact same issues as under the gm customer satisfaction #12312a which initially only covered the 2010 to 2011 equinox. This same issue is also covered under technical service bulletin #13-06-01-003h. Based on this issue, my vehicle was in motion on a city street started so sputter while driving and finally shut down while driving. I was not able to get a dealership appointment and took the vehicle to firestone complete auto care. They informed me that the low oil likely caused the timing chain to jump and recommend i should see the dealership for oil consumption issue as this was a well known issue with these vehicles. I was able to get my vehicle to the dealership. The vehicle has 85k miles and the warranty ran out 5 months ago. I was informed that the issue was the timing chain and it needed to be replaced for $1,600. 00. Similar issue to the 2010 and 2011 chevy equinox which is being replaced. Was also told the oil consumption would have to be performed after the timing chain fix and would also be at my expense. There are significant issues for this vehicle and gm is not taking responsibility. The warranty was extended for the 2010 and 2011 vehicles as they should have but the issue is also affecting the 2012 and 2013 as gm has issued service bulletins for them but are not fixing a known issue. This issue is dangerous to customers driving as the car can completely shutdown while driving. This is a dangerous issue for vehicle owners and an expensive one for customers from which gm is avoiding taking responsibility.
