Description of the problem | My 2012 equinox, with just under 87,000 miles was going through a quart of oil about every 1,000 - 1,500 miles. Driving home recently, it just died on me. Fortunately, i was able to coast to the side of the road. I had it towed to a garage and was told i needed a new engine. They said the timing chain stretched and there were multiple bent valves and broken rocker arms. I got a second opinion and they found the same thing. I had a gm dealership replace the engine with a used one that has 23,000 miles. Needing it for work, i had them do it right away. After doing some research, i found these are not uncommon problems.
