Description of the problem | While driving around 65-70mph, i experienced a complete loss of engine power, and had to pull over to the shoulder of the highway. I immediately restarted the vehicle and was left with 50% engine power (limp mode). Luckily the dealer was only a couple miles away, so i immediately drove there for repair, but had this been elsewhere in the region, i would have been stranded. The bmw high pressure fuel pump was replaced and the car has been working well ever after. I was told that this incident accurately reflects what typical high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failures typically present like. |
