Description of the problemI own a 2005 audi a4. Three months out of warranty and with the odometer at 24,616, the transmission control unit on my car started signaling a fault. I took the car to the dealership, boardwalk audi in plano, texas, and was told that the unit was about to go out and that the car could just stop while i was driving down the freeway. The repair cost would be $1490 and it would take up to two weeks to get the tcu because of back orders. If fact, one of the first things the service advisor told me was that they have had to order several of these parts (note - at this one dealership) and that it has taken at least a week to get them in. I also spoke with the service supervisor and service manager and they agreed to pay for 50% of the repairs. Both remarked that it was taking two or sometimes three weeks to get the part because of back orders. It seems like, with that level of incidents, this should be investigated. This car should not be having that type of failure with less than 25,000 miles. Ii reported it to audi america who responded with complete indifference.
